Documentation Center of Cambodia: The Sacred Hat Pavilion by Panharith Ean

The Sacred Hat Pavilion draws inspiration from and pays homage to the long lineage of Khmer roof architecture, with its symbolic connection to divinity and its role in sheltering community social infrastructure. The colorful fabric reflects the roofs of Khmer pagodas, while its transparency allows the pavilion to transform in appearance based on its surroundings and the time of day, and reveals the events and activities it shelters. The pavilion will host Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam)’s and The Queen Mother Library’s exhibitions and events. The Sacred Hat Pavilion is derived from a thesis research and design project entitled “Sacred Hat, Ordinary Body” by Panharith Ean, completed at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
